Mission Viejo's, 8th Annual USTA/ITF Junior Wheelchair Camp

Beginning today on July 6, 2014, more than 30 youth from around the world will take part in the annual USTA/ITF Junior Wheelchair Camp of the Americas that will be held at the Marguertie Tennis Pavilion, 27474 Casta Del Sol, Mission Viejo, CA 92691.

This camp is the only one of its kind in South and North America.  Athletes are from nine, US states and six countries.   Wheelchair bound athletes, ages 12-18 years old will learn and train with some of the top coaches in our country.

Coaches include USTA National Head Coach and National Manager of Wheelchair Tennis, Dan James; and USTA Wheelchair Tennis Assistant National Head Coach, Jason Harnett from Mission Viejo, CA.

 "We are always proud to hold this wheelchair tennis camp for these young athletes from all over the world who want to develop their games and meet new players," James said. "This is an incredibly unique opportunity for these athletes to play the sport they enjoy and gives them the opportunity to make lasting friendships with other young people who share a similar lifestyle. We hope this camp will impact the growth of these young players for years to come."Camp consists of a morning clinic and afternoon clinics with in-depth tennis instruction.   Match players will also participate in a tournament for ITF Junior Ranking points.

The community is welcome to come and support these athletes as they learn new skills.   The free event is from 10 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday, July 11 with the exception of Wed., July 9 when the youth will go to Universal Studios.

In November, the city will host the International Tennis Federation Master Series, Wheelchair Doubles World Championships.

The camp is sponsored by the City of Mission Viejo, the USTA, the ITF and the Johan Cruyff Foundation.
