Paint Mission Viejo Purple June 1 -8 – Margot Ferron

Mission Viejo, Mayor Rhonda Reardon proclaimed June 1 -8, 2013 American Cancer Society’s RELAY FOR LIFE and Paint our Town Purple Week in the city of Mission Viejo, CA. The community has waged its fierce fight against cancer since 1995. Just because we had our relay on June 1, doesn’t mean the fundraising has ended. We have raised $161,000, but we are determined to be Orange County’s #1 Relay. To become the # 1 Relay, we need to raise more than Anaheim Hill’s, $170,000. Anaheim Hills continues to be the #1 Relay in OC. Here’s the Proclamation: American Cancer Society’s 2013 Relay For Life of Mission Viejo, CA PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, in 2013 the American Cancer Society will celebrate their 100th anniversary. WHEREAS, The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life is an overnight community celebration dedicated to present and former cancer patients, their caregivers, their families and friends. Relay For Life raises funds for the American Cancer Society while declaring that cancer can and will be beaten; and WHEREAS, The City of Mission Viejo is supporting the American Cancer Society Relay for Life by asking everyone to make a donation and to have a large purple bow placed on your door or on the door at your business. These bows that will “paint” our city “purple” and serve several purposes. We raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society to continue to do research, provide services, education and advocacy in the mission to eliminate cancer as a health risk. We come together to serve our community by supporting this worthy cause and WHEREAS, The event kicks off at 9 am on Sat., June 1 with the Opening Ceremony and then the Cancer Survivor Victory Lap. Relay has a family-friendly atmosphere with games, food and entertainment through the day and night. After dark at 9 pm, a Luminary Ceremony is held. The luminaries are placed around the track in honor and memory of someone. You may purchase a luminary for $10. Everyone in our community is invited to come participate in the fun and fellowship. WHEREAS, the City of Mission Viejo has helped raise more than $2 million since 1995. The community will continue its fight against cancer as well as support the American Cancer Society in the 100th year. NOW THEREFORE, I, Rhonda Reardon, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Mission Viejo, on behalf of the City Council and myself do hereby proclaim the week of June 1-8, 2013 as RELAY FOR LIFE and Paint our Town Purple Week in the city of Mission Viejo, CA.
