Splash into Summer with a Day of Water Safety

Warm weather is here and people are ready to hit the water.   Kids are out of school and it is time to go to the beach or the pool.  Unfortunately, California leads the country in drowning.  “Children drown without a sound.”

The Orange County Fire Authority and the City of Mission Viejo will host a water safety day at the Sierra Recreation Center, 26887 Recodo Lane, Mission Viejo, 92691 on Thurs., June 26, 2014 from 3- 4 pm (staging begins at 2:45 pm).

According to the OCFA, there have been 10 fatal drowning and 13 near drowning in Orange County this year.   Of those 65% have been in their 50s and they were swimming alone.

Other agencies on hand are the Orange County Sheriff Department’s, Trauma Intervention Program and Doctor’s Ambulance.   Water safety is critical in preventing drowning.   Be prepared for summer and swimming season.
