The 19th annual American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Mission Viejo-Margot Ferron

The jacaranda exploded like fireworks in the streets of Mission Viejo in time to welcome runners and walkers to the 19th annual American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life that was held on June 1. More than 40 teams, 515 registered participants, 200+ volunteers including Lion’s Heart, Marines and Community of Character youth groups, entertainers, musicians and the community was treated to a day of fun, entertainment, cancer awareness and educational fight back messages this year. Throughout the day many members from the community popped in to walk a lap or two, visit and enjoy the event. Bones West Brass Band opened the cermonies with the Star Spangled Banner. Event Chairs, Margot Ferron and Amanda Bassett kicked off Relay by leading the Survivors’ Lap. We had free massages, Zumba, Yoga and many free give-aways from Walgreens, UPS and Canon. We feasted on bagels, beverages, donuts, fruits, sandwiches, pastries, pasta- not to mention all the wonderful delicacies everyone brought. Some of our sponsors who generously donated were All Star Pizza, Starbucks, Panera Bread, Outbacks, California Pizza Kitchen, Royal Donuts, Bagels & Brew…the list is endless. We surpassed our goal of $113,000 this year and have raised more than $161,000. We want to thank everyone who has contributed to our success and fundraising- our friends, family, volunteers, corporate sponsors, all the many Zumba instructors, Montanoso Recreation Center, Norman Murray Community and Senior Center, Saddleback College and especially the City of Mission Viejo. We were so blessed to have so many corporate sponsors this year. Because of each of you the event was an enormous success. We look forward to working with all of you again. No doubt, we have until August 30, 2013 to raise more money and we will. Cancer never sleeps and we will fight to end this disease that terrorizes each of us in some way or another. For more information please contact Margot Ferron, 949/309-1235 or email gomargotgo@aol.com. “Thank you” for helping us celebrate more birthdays.
