The American Red Cross Awards the Platinum Service Award

At the recent annual Red Cross Awards Breakfast held at the Irvine Marriot Hotel, the American Red Cross recognized individuals, business corporations and service organizations.

The City of Mission Viejo received the prestigious, Platinum Service Award for outstanding participation in the Orange County Blood Bank Program.

In the past two years Nurses, Anna T. Boyce, May Hillmann and Elaine Tayefeh along with volunteers Irina Cromwell, Nora Bires, Dan and Mary Lou Moncino have assisted with the drive.  They accepted the award on behalf of the City.

Mayor Trish Kelley, who initiated and started the blood drives in Mission Viejo said, “Each donation helps to save up to three lives, so it is very important to support blood drives.”

 According to the American Red Cross, someone in the U.S. needs blood every two seconds.  More than four million lives American lives are saved each year.  Blood is always needed for cancer, blood diseases, burns and surgery patients.
