My letter to Mayor Reardon and council member Schlicht

Dear Mayor Reardon and council member Schlicht,
I wanted to address some concerns I have regarding comments made last night and previously.
Ms Reardon - I am a bit perplexed on why you keep mentioning that you will be a part of our Bone Yard Bash dog park fundraiser.  Why do you want to attend when you have continuously voted against anything for our dog park?
I find it insulting to the city staff, city council and myself when you make comments that you support a dog park but not this one.  I find it insulting to the city staff, city council and myself that you have ignored all of the work and studies done in the past 10 years.  If you don't support all of the work and research done by city staff, city council and commissions to finally come up with the only solution for a dog park, then you don't support a dog park.
Suggesting "doggie fun zones" is also very insulting and tells me you don't know anything that is needed and required for a dog park to succeed and to be safe.  To me, a "doggie fun zone" is our own backyard!
Yes, we could have had a least expensive dog park a couple of years ago at the Oso Viejo site, but Ms. Schlicht took it upon herself to spread lies and misconceptions about how a dog park would affect the closest neighborhood.  Very unprofessional behavior for a city council member!  In keeping the peace and to move forward positively, Ms. Kelley decided to rescind her vote and move forward with finding another location.
In light of all of the struggles of the past 10 years, city council, commissions and staff have found an incredible location that will not affect anyone negatively.  The cost of any park is going to be more expensive if you keep waiting year after year to get it done.  The city is also in a great position to be able to pay for it with the parks and rec fund and still have so much left over.  This is a win, win situation for the city and its residents.
Ms. Schlicht - The amount of lies that spew from your mouth is unbelievable!  To continue to suggest Barbadanes, Flo Jo's or any other existing park is just plain insulting, inexcusable and frankly wrong.  You know all too well that any existing park (besides Oso Viejo) doesn't meet the criteria from all of the research that has been done for the last 10 years.  You know all too well that Barbadanes is a neighborhood park that you can not take away from nearby residents.  You know all too well that Barbadanes is too small.  You know all too well that this is a neighborhood park with playground equipment.  You know all too well that it is too close to the neighborhood.
The same goes for Flo Jo's and any other park you can come up with.  You know all too well with all of the activities and sports at Flo Jo's that residents would rally against this idea and any other park you mention.  But, you know this because your "group of naysayers" have used this stalling technique for years and years.  You hope that someone who doesn't know about all of the research and criteria needed for a safe and successful dog park will think your idea is great.  It is truly irresponsible behavior for someone on city council and representing our fine city.
I am so proud of Mr. Ury, Ms. Kelley and Mr. Leckness for voting this through last night!  I am so proud of all of the commissions and city staff and the incredible job they have done!  I look forward to the park that GMC Engineering will start building for us later this month or early August.  Thank you!

Kindly,
Susan Sellerswww.mvdogpark.com
