A public memorial will be held for Kayla Hallee Monday, Sept. 9 at 4 p.m. inside Mission Viejo Christian Church, 27192 Jeronimo Road.
"Her family has said that everyone is welcome to join and celebrate Kayla," according to a Facebook page dedicated to the memorial.
Hallee, 20, was found dead last week in the ocean near Santa Barbara. She graduated from Mission Viejo High and recently attended UC Santa Cruz, according to her Facebook page.
Authorities have not announced whether a faded orange kayak abandoned nearby had belonged to Hallee.
A private gathering for family and guests at the Norman P. Murray Community Center will follow the public memorial.
