6-Year-Old Girl Dies After Hospitalization in Swimming Pool Drowning Accident

Drowning is the ninth preventable death in Orange County so far this year.

A 6-year-old girl who was hospitalized after being found at the bottom of a swimming pool of a home in Mission Viejo has died, the Orange County Fire Authority announced Tuesday.

The girl and her 4-year-old sister was left by their father in a pool June 1 and when he returned, the older girl was at the bottom, according to Capt. Steve Concialdi of the Orange County Fire Authority.

The older girl was taken to a hospital. The 4-year-old was unharmed.

The drowning was the ninth of the year in Orange County this year, all of which were preventable, Concialdi said.

Another 11 people were rescued before they drowned, Concialdi said.
