Blotter: Car Knocks Trash Can into Girl Scout Selling Cookies

A 67-year-old woman hit the accelerator instead of the brakes, and an 8-year-old selling Girl Scout cookies was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

An 8-year-old girl scout was hit by a car when a woman hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes about 3:20 p.m. Sunday outside Ralphs at Alicia and Trabuco, the city announced Tuesday.

Kaye Way, 67, drove her silver Mercedes SUV into a trash can that was pushed into the girl, the city says. The girl wasn't seriously injured, but did complain of shoulder pain.

Police are still investigating the accident.

5:20 p.m. Suspicious Person/Circumstances, Mission Hospital: An emergency room patient started trouble with security.

4:11 p.m. Traffic Hazard, Oso/Marguerite: A traffic light was stuck on red at westbound Oso, causing cars to run the light and almost cause accidents, according to a witness.

2:03 p.m. Disturbance, San Marino Court and Via Veneto: Three boys were seen throwing rocks at passing cars from the bushes.

1:53 p.m. Traffic hazard, Santa Marguerita and Los Alisos: A smashed dresser drawer left glass all over the lanes.

11:02 a.m. Vandalism, : Students tried to throw a trash can into the school library. Police caught up to two teen boys. They caused no permanent damage.

9:34 a.m. Missing Adult, 26700 block La Sierra: A mother called police looking for her adult daughter, who went missing. The daughter has moderate down syndrome, is a diabetic and needed medications. The search was called off 25 minutes later.

1:30 a.m. Defrauding an Innkeeper, 27400 block Osuna: After letting off a passenger, a taxi driver called police. The passenger went into a home and  never came back out.

FRIDAY

5:04 p.m. Suspicious Person/Circumstances, 23900 block Alicia Parkway: A man spotted another man carrying a backpack that was stolen from his truck the night before.

3:43 p.m. Vandalism, The Shops at Mission Viejo: Tommy Bahama called in a vandalism report.

3:34 p.m. Disturbance, Los Alisos and Trabuco: A man in scrubs was seen running around a parked white Prius with a woman. The two were hitting each other, according to a witness.
