Cerritos Resident Discovers Home Ransacked, Burglarized

The break-in in the 12400 block of Miles Street, near Tetzlaff Middle School, was reported about 11:30 a.m.

After being away for most the morning, a Cerritos resident came home Wednesday and discovered that her residence had been burglarized.

A call of the apparent break-in was reported about 11:30 a.m. Dec. 12 after the resident returned to her home in the 12400 block of Miles Street (near Tetzlaff Middle School) and found her front door left open, said Lt. Richard Harpham of the Cerritos Sheriff's Station.

Several units responded to the location and deputies immediately searched through the home while the resident waited outside. No intruders were found, but the residence was indeed ransacked, the lieutenant added.

The residents were continuing to work with deputies to determine what had been stolen.

Though it was unclear how the burglar(s) made entry into the home, Harpham pointed out the importance of keeping your residence locked and secure at all times. Regardless of where the doors or windows are located, residents are advised to check and secure all entryways prior to leaving their homes.

Community members are also encouraged to be proactive and call 911 or the Cerritos Sheriff's Station at (562) 860-0044 if you observe something or someone suspicious in your neighborhood.

I'm curious if they had a alarm system or not. One thing with Cerritos is there's an incredibly high amount of residential burglaries for an area it's size. As soon as we moved in that's the 1st thing we did.

My house near 183rd and Shoemaker was burglarized in early June of this year. They hit my house shortly after I dropped my daughter off at Whitney. I received a call from the LAPD Gang Unit while I was at work in Newport Beach. Let me repeat that: I received a call from the LAPD Gang Unit. Now, the obvious question here (which is the same I had on the day of the burglary) is why the LAPD was involved. The answer is because the gang came from south LA. Not, the southbay, but the southern portion of metropolitan Los Angeles which puts it well outside of the areas you mentioned. When the Cerritos Sheriffs showed up, they were brought up to date by the LAPD. Apparently, gangs were coming from outside the areas hitting affluent homes. The LAPD had jurisdiction because the gangs originated from metropolitan Los Angeles and the gang unit had their eye on them and were building a case. The items from my home were the only things that linked them to a crime and I spent a few days in court in case they needed me as a witness which, thankfully, they never did. The LAPD and Cerritos Sheriffs told me that Cerritos is popular among metropolitan LA gangs due to the affluence of the community. Those are facts. What you've been spreading are irresponsible race-baiting comments that don't come right out and say you're a casual racist, but indirectly imply such by their tone and demeanor. I am embarrassed to have you as a neighbor.
