Police Seek Crown Valley Bank Robber

Police want your help finding the man who robbed a Mission Viejo bank.

A man robbed Bank of the West on Crown Valley Parkway Tuesday just before 4 p.m.

An Asian man in his 40s threatened that he had a gun, produced a note and demanded cash from a bank teller, said Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Amormino.

The robber was last seen running toward a parking lot. No vehicle was spotted.

Helicoptors assisted deputies in searching for the man, but did not find him, Amormino said.

The FBI is searching for the man, whose image was clearly captured by security cameras. See images of the man attached to this story.

I'd like to see FBI statistics on bank robber demographics. What percentage of bank robbers are Asian? I wonder if there are more female non Asian bank robbers than there are male Asian bank robbers.

Got Google? Not an exact breakdown is available for Asians, but you can estimate approx. numbers. http://www.fbi.gov/stats-services/publications/bank-crime-statistics-2011/bank-crime-statistics-2011 As in no more than 302 males and 17 females out of 6088 are Asian, likely far less than that. At 319, that's a max of about 5% that could fit the bill. Since others and unknown include well, others and unknowns, the percentage likely is even smaller.
