Two Orange County hikers called police before their cell phone battery ran out. They haven't been found since Sunday evening.

Authorities are searching for a man and woman who got lost while hiking in Trabuco Canyon, the Orange County Sheriff's Department reported Monday.

Costa Mesa residents Nicholas Cendoya, 19, and Kyndall Jack, 18, called the Sheriff's Department from a cellphone around 8:25 p.m. Sunday. Soon after calling, their phone battery died.

The hikers believed they were about one mile from their vehicle, but deputies failed to find them during an initial foot search, authorities reported.
