Jon ! The V.F.W. is so much more than a"Retired militrary social club", Yes some of us will have a drink but we also do so much more than that, Honor Guard's and Firing Squads for military funerals, help with getting vetran's benifits for those just out of service and many other thing's. it also helps to support our members when they come under stress and need to talk with another person that has expierenced War !

Ed --- you know, when we were growing up the way to tell if someone's dad was an Officer or a Chief was to look in the Den A Liquor Cabinet meant he was an Officer A Beer Tapper meant he was a Chief ...

Jon, I grew up in a town that didn't have police, we had a county Sheriff if there was a real problem other than that it would wait till he got there on hias round's, LOL The guy in our town that was the worst drunk didn't drink in the one bar we had or retired mitilary social club's which we didn't have, When the Sheriff caught him on the street drunk he just took him back to the church and told him to stay there! So all of us have had different expierences growing up and it is those selfsame expierences that make us who we are and shape what we believe in, We are all alike but so different !

Ed --- I've been in IB since '55 --- and trust me, we have had our share of party people over the years --- and one thing has always been true --- everywhere there is a bar people drink --- and some even get wasted --- and of those a large percentage get in a car (or on a bike) and go home --- unassisted Guess what else --- for years the IBPD used to sit outside the Clock, Rat, Scoreboard, Plank, VFW, Legion, and other places to make sure these people understood the error of their ways --- to gently remind them that drinking while impaired isn't a very smart idea Unfortunately, now the Sheriff's are apparently too busy ticketing folks for not wearing seat belts, violating curfew at the beach, illegal skateboarding, talking on phones, taking up two spaces in front of their own houses, stopping in front of schools, and so many more dangerous activities that they have no time to stop drunks from driving Unless, of course, it is on overtime at a designated checkpoint ...
