Kids, Mom Recovering After Big Crash

A mom and two pairs of twins are home after a Tuesday evening wreck at Oso and Marguerite.

It was a bad car crash, but it could've been worse.

A mom and her two sets of twins, ages 10 and 13, were reunited Thursday after their minivan was in a four-car crash Tuesday evening at Oso and Marguerite.

"The family is all together," grandfather John Laurie said. "My last granddaughter was released from the hospital last night after a surgery procedure for her arm. And they're home recuperating."

Their injuries were "fairly minor," Laurie said.

"Thank goodness for side airbags," he said, adding that their seatbelts helped save them.

Two family members suffered concussions, Laurie said, and the mother broke a rib.

One of the 13-year-olds was sitting in front and his face required stitches, said grandmother Debby Laurie. The 10-year-old girl had a broken arm, she said.

Soon after the crash, it was incorrectly reported in another publication that one child was on life support.

John Laurie said the hardest thing for the family was being separated. The two girls were taken to the Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, while the mother and one son were taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo.

There's no word on the condition of another driver involved in the accident who was also taken to the hospital.
