Mission Viejo High Water Polo Coach Placed on Administrative Leave

Saddleback Valley School District confirms that coach Trevor McMunn has been relieved of coaching duties. An assistant coach who filed a sexual harassment complaint against him with the district has documented her report with police.

The Saddleback Valley Unifed School District has put  head water polo coach Trevor McMunn on administrative leave, said Trudy Dunn, executive assistant in the superintendent’s office, Tuesday afternoon.

Other than confirming that the coach is on leave, Dunn would not elaborate. She would not say why McMunn was put on leave or for how long.

"This is as far as we can say," she said. "It’s a personnel matter."

"Sexual harassment is not a crime," said sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino. "However, we did assign an investigator to see if there were any criminal acts."

A female teenage water polo player also filed a sexual harassment complaint with the Saddleback Valley Unified School District against McMunn.

The assistant coach told Patch that she tried to  to police but the deputy told her the student and her parents would have to file that report in person.

The next step is for the assistant coach to be interviewed by a police investigator, Amormino said.

A tweet from the account MVHSBoysPolo was sent to the boys team Tuesday around 9 a.m.: "Practice cancelled today....waiting on updated schedule." Another from around 5 p.m. reads, "Practice to resume tomorrow; times being finalized. Look for email this evening."

Editor's note: Like many news organizations, Patch generally doesn't identify victims of alleged sexual assault.
