Prison for Pool Party Videotaping Mission Viejo Dance Teacher

Jason Marian will spend two years and eight months in state prison after being convicted of unlawful sex with a minor and secretly videotaping teen girls changing in a bathroom for a pool party.

A Mission Viejo dance instructor tried to secretly tape girls ages 12 to 14 while they changed for a pool party at his house. But when one of the girls found the camera, his legal troubles began.

Now Jason Marian of Aliso Viejo will spend two years and eight months in a state prison after being found guilty by a jury of eight felonies involving sex and pornography with minors. The courts ordered two other felony charges be retried, including sexual penetration by foreign object on a minor under 18.

A judge sentenced Marian Tuesday.

Marian had been an instructor at Mission Viejo Dance and Performing Arts Center with his wife.

On April 14, 2007, Marian invited several girls to a pool party. He told them to change from their wet swimsuits so as not to get the furniture wet.

But one of the girls spotted the hidden camera he placed in the bathroom. She gave the camera to her parents, who took it to police.

One of those teens spoke in court:

"As a seventh-grader at 13 years old, I had discovered firsthand what betrayal really was," the anonymous victim said. "For the past four years this has always been in the back of my mind. The impact of all that has gone on is indescribable."

A mother of one of the teens also spoke in court:

"No one saw it coming," she said. "You are the most dangerous of predators because you so carefully manipulated your way into the dance studio and into the families of the victims pretending to be something that you were not... On the outside you looked safe. On the inside, you are a sick man."

Marian was also convicted of unlawful sex with a 16-year-old he met at the dance studio. For a science project, he took her to the Ocean Institute in Dana Point where he worked. Last year he was convicted of having sex with the girl in his home in June 2006.
