Speeding Lamborghini Driver Crashes, Burns, Outside Temecula

His face was burned and he was airlifted to University of California San Diego burn center, CHP officials said.

A man allegedly traveling at more than 100 miles per hour in a Lamborghini on the 15 Freeway near Fallbrook was in the hospital Sunday following a crash that set the car on fire and burned him.

The crash was reported about 11:15 p.m. on the northbound Interstate 15, just north of Fallbrook and about 15 miles south of Temecula, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver, a 35-year-old San Marcos resident, may have been drinking before the crash, CHP officials said.

He suffered major injuries -- including burns to his face -- and was airlifted to a San Diego burn center, CHP Officer Jim Bettencourt said.

The 2008 sports car drifted from the right lane across the freeway and into the center median, Bettencourt said; the vehicle was split in half and caught fire.

The crash was under investigation.

I agree with the statement I left about him being drunk. I told myself that although I believed him to be intoxicated, there was a chance he broke a bottle in the car, or perhaps his head was so badly injured he came off as being intoxicated. I apologize for not addressing all reasonable explanations and thank you for being the devils advocate in this instance! But yes, the experience was traumatizing, and I hope to God I never witness another incident like that again. I will be telling my children this story!

Brenda, I was referring to driving recklessly but if the guy is an alcoholic then it is clearly a far more complicated situation. Either way I hope he no longer puts others in danger.
