Who Were the Women Urdiales Is Accused of Murdering?

Some information on the slayings that former Camp Pendleton Marine Andrew Urdiales stands accused of, including that of Saddleback College student Robbin Brandley.

He's already , but , the man accused of murdering five Southern California women, the first one being Saddleback College student Robbin Brandley in 1986.

Here are details of the California slayings Urdiales is accused of, courtesy of the Orange County district attorney's office. Warning: These are graphic descriptions of homicide.

  • Slaying of Robbin Brandley, Orange County: On the evening of Jan. 18, 1986, 23-year-old Robbin Brandley was volunteering as an usher at a Saddleback College jazz pianist concert. Authorities say that that evening, Urdiales drove to the college from Camp Pendleton, armed with a 6-inch-blade hunting knife, with the intent to murder a random victim. After the concert, Brandley left the reception in the Fine Arts complex and began walking to her car. Prosecutors say Urdiales saw her coming from the building and approached her from behind in a dimly lit parking lot. He is accused of murdering her by stabbing her 41 times in the back, neck, chest and hands and then fleeing the scene.
  • Slaying of Julie McGhee, Riverside County: On July 17, 1988, authorities say, Urdiales picked up a 29-year-old prostitute named Julie McGhee in the Indian Wells area. Prosecutors say he drove McGhee to a remote, developing area in Cathedral City, had sex with her and then murdered her by shooting her once in the head. He is accused of leaving her body in the desert, stealing her personal identifying information and fleeing the scene.
  • Slaying of Maryann Wells, San Diego County: On Sept. 25, 1988, prosecutors say, Urdiales picked up 31-year-old prostitute  Maryann Wells in San Diego. Authorities say he paid Wells $40, drove her to an alley in a deserted industrial complex and had sex with her. He is accused of then murdering Wells by shooting her once in the head and then taking back the $40 he had paid her. Authorities say a condom he left at the scene contained his and Wells' DNA.
  • Slaying of Tammie Erwin, Riverside County: On April 16, 1989, prosecutors say, Urdiales picked up a 20-year-old prostitute named Tammie Erwin. Authorities say he drove Erwin to a remote area in Palm Springs, had sex with her and then murdered her by shooting her three times. Urdiales is accused of using the same firearm to murder McGhee, Wells and Erwin. Prosecutors say that after murdering Erwin, he dismantled the firearm and separately disposed of the parts.
  • Slaying of Denise Maney, Riverside County: Prosecutors say that on March 11, 1995—four years after being discharged from the Marine Corps—Urdiales picked up 32-year-old prostitute Denise Maney while he was on vacation from Illinois in the Palm Springs area.  Urdiales is accused of driving Maney to a remote desert area in Palm Springs, forcing her to disrobe, tying her hands behind her back and sexually assaulting her and then stabbing her to death.
