Whoo? Resident Seen Shooting Palm Tree Barn Owls

After a noisy night of bird calls, a resident takes a pot shot at wild owls.

Maybe someone got tired of being asked "Who?"

A resident near the corner of Via Quinto and Via Octavo was spotted shining a flashlight into a palm tree where noisy barn owls were roosting around 9:30 Monday night.

After illuminating the tree, the resident was heard firing a BB gun into the tree, causing an owl to fly from the tree.

The owls had been "very noisy" near that time, which may have provoked the shooter, an informant told the Orange County Sheriff's Department. The incident was filed as animal cruelty on the OCSD online blotter.

Deputies were unable to follow up on the complaint because the informant asked not to be contacted, OCSD Sgt. Joe Warner said.
