UPDATED: Man Putting Up Scaffolding at Mission Viejo High Electrocuted

One dead, another is in critical condition.

UPDATE at 11:29 p.m.: The injured man is going to make it., according to the OCFA. The men were working for a construction company that was erecting scaffolding to eventually place a banner.

A person putting up scaffolding on a Mission Viejo High School athletic field was electrocuted today and another person who rushed to his aid was fighting for his life, a fire captain said.

The scaffolding apparently came in contact with electrical lines about 3 p.m., Capt. Steve Concialdi of the Orange County Fire Authority said.

Both victims were described as being in their mid 20s and taken to the hospital, where the initial victim was declared dead, Concialdi said. The survivor had severe burns and injuries suffered from falling about 25 feet, he said.

It was unclear what the two men were doing or who employed them. Cal/OSHA will investigate the deadly accident, a representative said.
