$1 Million to Maintain Mission Viejo Roads
City contract covers weed removal, signs, road striping and cleaning storm drains.
Mission Viejo will pay nearly $1,000,000 a year to have county crews maintain local roads under a two-year contract approved Tuesday by the Orange County Board of Supervisors.
The $988,000-per-year contract includes:
- $13,500 to create one sign
- $56,000 to maintain 4,600 signs
- $77,000 for inmate labor
- $93,000 for storm-drain cleaning
- $56,000 for weed and rodent control
- $310,000 for striping, crosswalks, road lettering and stenciling
- $225,000 for supervision and inspection costs
Additional charges can be added for emergency or other "extraordinary" work.

The county's public works department has provided road-maintenance services for the city since Mission Viejo incorporated in 1988.
