$165K: City May Spend Obama Stimulus Dollars on Light Bulbs

If the plan is approved Monday night, the City Council will direct its staff to spend more than $165,000 on new energy-efficient light bulbs for the city's community center, civic center and traffic lights.

If so, the money will come from federal stimulus spending championed by President Barack Obama.

The city has received grant money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, popularly known as the stimulus bill. Now it's a matter of spending that money.

If approved, the lights will be installed in the community center and the civic center. They will also replace the yellow lights inside city traffic signals.

To do the work, the city chose Republic ITS, which was the lowest bidder among eight contractors.

In other news, the city will release details from a recently completed community opinion survey. The survey was designed to learn how residents wanted the city's money spent.
