4 Electric Car Charging Stations on Monday Council Agenda

Will Mission Viejo spring for four new electronic car charging stations?

Mission Viejo could build four public electric car charging stations around town with grant money and local tax money.

The City Council will decide Monday whether to install the e-car stations at City Hall, the Norman P. Murray Community Center, Saddleback College and The Shops at Mission Viejo.

Staff lined up $60,000 in grant money to help pay the cost of the stations. But another $60,000 in local taxes will be required to finish the job, according to a report released Thursday.

At issue is how much to charge for the stations. The report notes that Walgreens charges $2/hour in Mission Viejo to use its charging station. Laguna Beach provides the service at its two charging stations for free, but with an additional cost for parking.
