Baker Voted Mayor of San Clemente

Recently reelected Councilman Bob Baker was sworn in and made mayor by his fellow council members.

San Clemente's new Mayor for the rest of this year through 2013 is Bob Baker.

Baker was sworn in Tuesday after his recent reelection, along with freshman Councilman Chris Hamm.

Hamm took 16-year council veteran Jim Dahl's spot.

Baker, who was voted in unanimously, said his chief initiative this year would be to keep the dialogue between city leaders and the public open.

"I'm going to focus on improving communications between the residents and the citizens," Baker said. "I want to make sure that everyone is calling that city number anytime they've got something to say."

The council thanked Jim Dahl for his years of service, and Dahl touted some of the city accomplishments he had helped achieve during his time on the dais.

Not only did he mention all the parks, trails and facilities added to the town over his 16 years, but also economic revitalization.

"I remember when you could have dropped a bomb on Del Mar at 4:30 in the afternoon and you wouldn't have hurt anyone," Dahl said. "Now, it's just thriving."

Baker replaced Councilman Jim Evert as mayor. Councilman Tim Brown will serve another year as Mayor Pro Tempore.

Hi Allison, Thanks for keeping such a positive spirit. By the way how do those sour grapes taste. I am glad that you are so pleased that San Clemente now has a mayor who will put the residents first. Bob has been right on every important issue that put the residents first; saving open space (Measure C); opposed to the Ralph's on steroids and in favor of the Ralph's of sensible size; opposed to illegal signs at Marblehead; and especially opposed to the land giveaway to the LAB at North Beach (Measure A). I assume all these bad ideas that Bob opposed are near and dear to your heart. The people stand with Bob on these issues, not malcontents like you. Perhaps you missed it but Bob was overwhelmingly re-elected because of citizen, not big developer support. The people spoke and now it is time for you and your ilk to "GET OVER IT." Support Mayor Bob Baker for a better San Clemente.

Somehow, the logic that someone's money bought the position of mayor for Bob escapes me. Because the article very plainly says that Bob was elected mayor "unanimously" by his fellow council members, including two that have had significant policies differences with Bob over the years. A proctologist friend once told me that some exams can't be done if the patient's head is in the way.

Allison Bob Baker does not need money. The man had a brilliant carrier and set himself up nicely. Did you know he flew the Laker's private jet??? I'm pretty sure he has no need for ego stroking. Bob Baker spent his hard earned money on his campaign because he LOVES San Clemente. Speaking of size... you seem to have a rather large chip on your shoulder. Let it go sister. Bitterness will kill ya.
