Councilman Ury Elected to County Transit Board

Councilman Frank Ury picked up his first elected seat on the Orange County Transportation Authority Board of Directors Thursday night. The director position lasts for two years.

The City Selection Committee of Orange County, comprised of Orange County's 34 mayors, makes the selection for each of the county's five districts. For one seat, a director is chosen based on the weighted population of the mayors' cities. Another seat is chosen based on a majority of the voting mayors.

Ury won the weighted population vote with mayors representing about 70 percent of the county population voting in his favor, according to his spokesman, Steve Greyshock.

The Mission Viejo councilman beat out Laguna Niguel Councilman Robert Ming, who received about 30 percent of the county population vote. Ming and Ury are competing in 2014 for the 5th District Board of Supervisors seat.

Ury was appointed to the board last November after Laguna Niguel councilman Paul Glaab left office. The board is comprised of 10 elected city council members, the county's five supervisors, two public members and the Caltrans district director.
