Engineer Pulls Papers for City Council Run

Another potential candidate considers running for city council this November, leaving a possible seven people to fight for two council seats.

A Mission Viejo engineer has signaled plans to run for city council this November.

Desi J. Kiss received the necessary paperwork to run for council Aug. 6. He describes himself as an "Engineer/Small Business Owner."

According to city records, Kiss runs DJK Engineering, LLC from his home in the Castille Central neighborhood near .

Kiss was among about 50 people who sent letters to the city in 2007 opposing a $140,000 electronic billboard. Others opposed included Cathy Schlicht before she won a council seat. Council Members and voted in favor of the sign, which was approved in a split vote.

Kiss once taught computer science at Saddleback College, according to ratemyprofessors.com. He now teaches at Cal State Fullerton, according to the same site.

On July 27, businessman Rick Sandzimier pulled papers to run for city council. Sandzimier ran and lost in 2010, and was the center of a strange episode in which an opponent's supporter allegedly hit him with an SUV.

Now seven people have pulled papers needed to run. Kiss is joined by Sandzimier, .
