Train Station Parking Lot Expanding Next Week at Laguna Niguel-Mission Viejo

The $4.3 million parking lot will add 60 percent more parking to the station.

A newly expanded parking lot is scheduled to open next Wednesday at the Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo train station, 28200 Forbes Road.

The new $4.3 million lot will provide another 176 parking spaces, bringing the total number of spaces to 460, Orange County Transportation Authority spokesman Joel Zlotnik said. It is being funded by Measure M, the county’s half-cent sales tax initiative.

“As our population continues to grow, it increases the importance for Metrolink to provide a true alternative to sitting on the freeway,” said OCTA Director Frank Ury, also a Mission Viejo City Council member.

In 2015, construction is scheduled for more station improvements, including new pedestrian underpass ramps, restrooms and a vending machine area.
