Great Park Cuts PR Contract to $900,000

That's down from as much as $1.5 million a year, and doesn't include money paid to its in-house PR staff.

Faced with budget woes, Orange County's Great Park, famous for its multimillion-dollar helium balloon and not much else, has sliced its controversial public-relations contract in half.

According to Orange County Register columnist Frank Mickadeit, who has been railing for years against the "shameless" PR spending by the park, which also has an in-house PR staff, the Great Park had been shelling out $1.2 million a year to Forde & Mollrich, plus another $300,000 for "expenses."

Effective July 1, the contract will be $600,000 a year, plus the same $300,000 for undefined expenses.
