How Much Reserve Money Should Mission Viejo Keep?

Details on a triathlon proposal and more on the next Mission Viejo City Council agenda.

How much money should Mission Viejo hold in its reserve account? On Monday night, the City Council will address this question and more.

In 2007, the City established a maximum reserve level of 50 percent of yearly general fund revenue, but a conflict in the written policy has led to confusion, according to Administrative Services Director Cheryl Dyas.

Here are more issues before on the Council's Monday meeting agenda:

  • A special allowance for alcohol at the November wheelchair tennis world championship is being requested.
  • Pelican Coast Events will ask the city to host its seventh consecutive triathlon on June 1, 2014. As with the previous years' triathlons, the race would start at Lake Mission Viejo at 7:00 a.m. with a one-mile swim. The swim would be followed by a 25-mile bike ride, which would begin on Marguerite Parkway and head north to El Toro Road and continue through Santiago Canyon. The run portion of the race would begin on the Aliso Creek Bike Trail and follow a trail system back to Lake Mission Viejo, where the race would conclude at approximately 10:30 a.m.
