911 Tapes Released of Mission Viejo High School…

Loud Booms May Be Heard From Camp Pendleton

'Regimental size' artillery training explosions may be heard up to 50 miles away.

Camp Pendleton artillery units will be conducting a regimental size live-fire artillery training exercise through Feb. 12.

The live-fire activity is normal, according to a Marine Corps news release; however it will be done on a regimental level which may result in amplified noise. Also, 24-hour live-fire training will take place, Feb. 10-11. The training began Monday.

Depending on atmospheric conditions, the sound of the explosions may be amplified and heard up to 50 miles away.

"The sounds you hear are from the 11th Marine Regiment conducting training," 2nd Lt. Spencer Kenyon told Patch on Wednesday. To see a picture of the equipment they are using—the High Mobility Artillery Rocket Sysem—click here. The system has been used in Afghanistan, Kenyon said.

Those requesting additional information can direct their calls to Operations and Training at (760) 725-0357.

For future inquiries regarding increased noise levels, please refer to the weekly noise advisories posted on the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton web site .

I agree Edgar. I love it when the Marines play games. The bigger the guns and bombs the better. It gives me a safe feeling. I just would like them to give advance notice so when I am awakened at 0DARK30 from a sound sleep I know that it's the boys playing and not a car or truck running into my house or some ass that blew up his meth lab.

So true Edgar...you have to know what you're getting into when you a buy a house near an airport, train tracks, military bombing range haha. How it comes as a surprise to some people is beyond me!
