Millions in Contracts to be Decided Monday Night

The City Council will decide whether to award millions of dollars in contracts to city contractors.

The City Council will vote on three big contracts tonight as part of their yearly budget process.

Staff has asked for approval of a two-year, $850,000 contract with Siemens, who provides traffic signal services. The contract would maintains the rate the city paid Siemens over the last contract. Siemens has served Mission Viejo since 2007.

Also up for a vote, the city will decide whether to approve three two-year contracts for about $2.2 million with Merchant Landscape Services for three of the city's contract areas. They would provide services include fertilization, mowing, weeding, daily trash collection, plant replacement, minor irrigation repairs, and tree and shrub pruning for the city's slopes, parks, athletic fields, open space and facilities.

In addition, the city will vote on its tree-trimming service, currently run by Southern California's largest such service, West Coast Arborists, Inc. The city council has been asked by staff to approve about $1.2 million contract for two years of tree-trimming service. WCA was first chosen as the city's tree-trimmer in 1999.
