Patch Bloggers Win Top Honors from OC Press Club

The writers are awarded for pieces on a computer inventor and alleged mass-murder plotter.

Two Mission Viejo Patch political bloggers walked away with top honors Monday night at the Orange County Press Club's annual awards dinner.

Shripathi Kamath took first place in the "Best News/Political Blog" category with his thoughts on the life of Alan Turing, inventor of the modern computer. After being convicted of homosexuality in Great Britain, Turing died, possibly by suicide.

Kamath's description of the half-eaten apple at Turing's bedside led one judge to remark, "I'll never look at the Apple logo the same."

Also a winner Monday night was Dan Avery, who compared his sister's violent death to the violent fantasies of a UC Irvine professor in "Dead Men Tell No Tales."

The UCI prof was investigated for writing down violent fantasies following his son's death. Avery shared his own grief and his practice of writing violent fantasies as a way of coping with the pain of losing a loved one.

With Avery's second-place prize, Mission Viejo Patch bloggers swept the blogging category.
