Poll: What Street Needs Better Traffic Light Timing?

By synchronizing traffic signals, a county proposal could cut down traffic and wait times on Crown Valley Parkway.

Tired of waiting in traffic on Crown Valley Parkway?

A $459,000 county proposal before the Board of Supervisors Tuesday could reduce traffic congestion between Ladera Ranch and Dana Point if approved. It affects 30 crossings over nine miles of road.

The cooperative agreement between cities and the county would improve traffic signals in Mission Viejo, Laguna Niguel and every other area Crown Valley runs through.

What does each entity get out of the deal?

  • Dana Point will receive new GPS Time Source units;
  • Laguna Niguel will receive new traffic signal controllers, communication equipment upgrades, and software upgrade;
  • Caltrans will receive new CCTV cameras, GPS time source unit, traffic signal controller, and communication modules;
  • The County and Mission Viejo will receive traffic signal timing optimization services only for their signals.

Los Alisos. Anytime a car shows up on a side street, the light instantly goes red on Los Alisos. During commute times, a lot of traffic can build up quickly so one car can come off a side street.

Good point, Joel. I'll add Los Alisos to the poll.

My concerns are the right turn on red -at lights when u-turns are in progress at Marg/crown valley and Oso/ Santa Marg Pkwy. Accidents & near misses almost daily! It should be either u-turns or rt turn on red- not both in same intersection. D.K. Mission Viejo

Sounds dangerous, D.K. Thanks for letting us know your thoughts.

Aliso Creek Road traffic lights are very poorly synchronized. This shouldn't be hard to fix. Bob Knisely
