SC Republicans 'Thrilled' With Paul Ryan VP Pick

The 2012 presidential race headed for a "whole new level," one predicts.

South Carolina Republicans that Patch has spoken to on Saturday are excited about the choice of Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan as vice presidential nominee.

"This is going to be an exciting ticket — one that Republicans can enthusiastically get behind and endorse," said Taft Matney, a Greenville-area political consultant.

"We're about to see the 2012 presidential campaign kick up to a whole new level."

Gov. Nikki Haley, long-rumored to be under consideration for the VP position, responded on this morning on her Facebook page:

"WE now officially have a Dream Team of solutions: Mitt Romney/Paul Ryan! Both of these men understand its (sic) not about complaining and blaming, but producing results for the people of our great country. The race is on: Romney/Ryan vs Obama/Biden."

Karen Martin, a Spartanburg GOP precinct officer and organizer of the local Tea Party, said Ryan and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio were her top choices.

But Ryan is a better pick, Martin said, because he will not leave as big of a hole in the Senate as Rubio.

She said Ryan is a "clear leader," who "led on the budget issue and, most importantly, the entitlement issue, when no one else would."

“South Carolina Republicans are thrilled with the Romney-Ryan ticket to restore America," said SCGOP chairman Chad Connelly in a Saturday morning press release.

"Paul Ryan’s energy, ideas, and detailed knowledge of the federal budget are the perfect background for taking on Barack Obama’s failed policies on jobs and the economy. Paul Ryan will make America proud as the next Vice President.”

There are several demographics that Ryan's choice helps with, Martin said, including Catholics and Midwesterners.

The downsides, according to Martin, are that he voted for TARP (something she is willing to overlook) and that he's "unlikely" to challenge Romney in 2016.

Ryan the Vice-Presidential pick of Romney, Wow! When the voters learn the details of Ryan's budget plan, and they will, it ensures Obama's reelection. It's almost that god is on Obama's side; first Sarah Palin (the idiot) and now Ryan (the social Darwinist.) Could hardly be better.

To Stanley; "finally agree w/ john h We have agreed on alot of things, Respect for all, Love of country and fellow human. Just slight proceedural differences is all. No worries. It's winds up being a popularity contest. Whoever is the percieved winner of the debates gets the advantage. Agree on the mass marketing tactics. Whoever can best spin their positions, truth or lies it matters not, gets the prize. Then we do what we do best....Adapt.

I don't think I have ever been SOOOO HAPPPPY with these two things - 1st : Romney picked Ryan (all of your comments tell the story of what this means and why I'm Happy) - 2nd : I really expected to leave a "battle comment" or two on here telling a bunch of FOXHEAD, GOPTEABAGGERS how ignorant they are and how they are betting against they and their families well being, not to mention their COUNTRY. I am so glad to see that the state I have made my home for the past 14 years is not just full of Right wing FOXHEAD morons, because it seems to be the only ones I am meeting lately; many are from up north believe it or not. this election taught me one lesson. The party that can lie the most and belive his/her own lies has no guilt about what his/her lies do to the lives of other people. The only thing that matters, do what ever it takes to gain power and to keep it over the little people. Do as I say not as I do. What a shame our people are so blind to be lead like sheep to the slaughter.

Wait you are in South Carolina, right? You guys voted for Gingrich over Mitt Romney. Gingrich the serial adulterer! Over a good family man. You guys have a Republican governor, and a Republican legislature since...well forever. You guys have Republican policies and a higher unemployment rate than liberal New York. You guys get more in federal outlays than you generate in federal tax revenue, and you dare to scream socialism. (Please do not scream 'not true', it is, and you can easily look it up if you are honest) And then you act this righteous? Seriously, doesn't the Bible say something about this kind of behavior?
