Watch: Imported Fire Ants Plague Mission Viejo Lawns

60 Seconds with Dave: Councilman Dave Leckness tells us about imported fire ants in Mission Viejo—and how to get rid of them.

Have you seen tiny red ants crawling around your lawn? They could be imported ants, according to Orange County Vector Control.

Along with their sharp mandibles, fire ants have a venom-injecting sting that can leave painful welts and can even kill if a person is sensitive to the poison.

Check out the video of Mission Viejo City Councilman Dave Leckness, above, to learn how to stop the ants from invading your lawn.

Fire ants usually build mounds in sunny, open areas such as lawns, pastures, cultivated fields and meadows, according to the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
