Architect: $3 Mil Needed to Modernize Oso Grande

The entire district needs $822 in repairs and upgrades. Here's Oso Grande Elementary's share.

According to a Capistrano Unified architect, Oso Grande Elementary School needs about $3 million worth of upgrades.

Of that amount, $2 million would go toward replacing half of the portable classrooms with permanent buildings. Also included is $19,000 to address maintenance needs the district has deferred in recent years, including paint and the fire alarm system.

Capo commissioned an intense study of all of its facilities. The report was created in 2009 and has recently been updated for 2013 pricing. The district is facing $822 million worth of needs and only has about $44 million on hand to address them.

The 2013 figure also includes $612,000 to upgrade to the latest technology for students.

Oso Grande is one of only six Capo schools which meets California capacity laws for essential facilities, such as classrooms, toilets, drinking fountains, parking, library and administrative space.
