Drunken-Driving Warning Wins Award for Mission Viejo High

MVHS students take top honors for a "perfectly done" public service announcement.

beat out 350 entries to take the top prize at the nation's oldest student film festival earlier this month.

"The Perfect Night," a cautionary tale about drinking and driving, earned $1,000 for the school and a grand prize for the video's creators.

California Student Media Festival Director Mike Lawrence offered high praise for the students responsible for the video.

“It was extraordinary," said Lawrence, who also said the video features "great performances from the two lead actors," Kelley Moody and Kenny Davis.

Austin Caruana directed and edited the video.

“I’ve seen a lot of PSAs over the years," Lawrence said, "but this is so perfectly done—they had sets, they had costumes, they clearly thought it out shot-by-shot."

Yes, I agree, very well done. The message is important and the imagination on this 4 minute video kept me watching. Talent with a very worthy, important message. Bravo. Hope this helps to wake up people and saves lives.

Who did the music? Works well, I think. Reminded me of Daniel Johnston a little... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6v6QRTSyLQ http://www.allmusic.com/album/artistic-vice-mw0000612748

Man, I love Daniel Johnston. Saw him in Long Beach a few years ago, and he performed on the Queen Mary--almost didn't make the flight to California. Apparently he's afraid of flying after he threw the keys out of a small private plane his father was flying in 1990--his dad had to make a crash landing and amazingly they both survived.
