Public Hearing Announced for El Toro Stadium

With parents and neighbors overflowing the regular meetings of the Saddleback Valley school board, a special forum will be held to discuss concerns about a new football stadium.

Overflow seating has been the norm at Saddleback Valley Unified's board meetings since the district announced it was considering a proposal to install bleachers and lighting around the El Toro High School football field.

The district estimates the renovation to cost $4.5 million to $5 million.

The next board meeting will feature a public hearing on the field with a new format, Board President Ginny Fay Aitkens said Tuesday. She said to watch for a "Hot Button" alert with more information on the lower right corner of the district website.

Although it was not on the board's agenda, the football field discussion dominated Tuesday night's meeting.

Proponents said the proposal would bring home games back to El Toro, which currently shares a field with Trabuco Hills High. Opponents said home games would bring rowdiness and trash to their neighborhood.
