CIF-SS Football Polls Finally Recognize Tesoro, but Barely

Titans, who were ignored in the Pac-5 Division preseason rankings, are voted among the"others" after their victory over Newhall Hart in the Santa Clarita Valley. Poll released after Week 0 games.

Not much change in the CIF Southern Section coaches/media football rankings after the first week of the 2011 football season.

Evidently the Pac-5 Division voters were impressed enough with Los Alamitos' 70-14 victory over Norwalk to move the Griffins from among the "others" last week to No. 10 this week.

However, IMHO, much more impressive victories were turned in by Orange Lutheran, which throttled Bingham, a Utah state champion that had won 28 consecutive games, 42-7, at Mission Viejo High and Tesoro, which handled Hart of Newhall, 35-21, at College of the Canyons. However, neither the Lancers nor the Titans were even among the "others" in the coaches' preseason poll, so its fans should be thankful for "baby steps."

Los Amigos joined the party in the Southern Division with a season-opening 49-21 victory over San Diego Clairemont, and Sage Hill became an "other" in the East Valley Division when the Lightning bolted to a 48-6 victory over Fairmont Prep.

Here are this week's polls for divisions in which Orange County Patch teams (in bold) play. Last week's rankings are in parentheses.
