Diablos, Cougars to Play Back-to-Back for Baskeball Titles on Saturday in Anaheim

The boys basketball teams from Mission Viejo and Capistrano Valley high schools will be playing in back-to-back games for CIF Southern Section championships Saturday afternoon at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena.

Second-seeded Mission Viejo (29-1) will play top-seeded Ventura (28-2) for the Division 2AA title at 12:30 p.m., followed by fourth-seeded Capistrano Valley (24-6) meeting top-seeded Loyola of Los Angeles (24-5) for the Division 1A title at 2:15 p.m.

Both games are part of the four-game "day session" on Saturday, which means they can be seen for the price of one ticket. No reserve tickets will be sold for the session, but general admission tickets at $12 for adults and $5 for children and students with valid IDS are available at the Anaheim Convention Center box office and online through Ticketmaster beginning Monday.

Mission Viejo, the champions of the South Coast League, reached the title game with a 41-39 victory over Burbank in the first round of the playoffs, followed by wins over Redondo Union (53-45 in overtime), Colony (71-54) and Summit (73-76).

Capistrano Valley, runner-up in the South Coast League, advanced with a first-round victory over West Covina, 59-35, followed by wins over San Clemente (60-40), Silverado (47-46) and Aliso Niguel (61-46).

The day session on Saturday also includes the 9 a.m. game between Oaks Christian and Buckely for the Division 4A boys title and the 10:45 a.m. game between Harvard Westlake and Inglewood for the Division 4AA boys championship.
