Football: Dana Hills 57, Capistrano Valley 32

An explosive fourth quarter helps the Dolphins remain in control in the Sea View League.

The difficult schedule that Dana Hills played in the preseason has the Dolphins dialed in for Sea View League play. Dana Hills scored four touchdowns in the fourth quarter to spoil Capistano Valley’s comeback and upset hopes.

The four teams that Dana Hills has lost to are from higher divisions and area a combined 20-8: Trabuco Hills (4-3), Fountain Valley (6-1), Villa Park (5-2) and JSerra (5-2).

Pivotal Moment: You don’t want to give up big plays, especially the closer you get to the end of the game. Capistrano Valley had come from behind and taken a 32-29 lead with 11:50 remaining on Matt Gordon’s 20-yard TD pass and a two-point conversion. But when Dana Hills got the ball, the Dolphins scored from 59 yards on Mac Vail’s pass to Sean Schulte. It was all Dana Hills from that point on as the Dolphins, once down by three, scored 28 points in the fourth quarter.

Notes:  In addition to the bomb to Schulte, Vail’s touchdowns were 5 and 15 yards to Drew Falk, and 5 yards to Andrew Dunn.  … Schulte also had a 70-yard interception return to close the scoring. … Dunn scored on runs of 7 and 32 yards, the latter coming less than three minutes after the long pass from Vail to Schulte to extend the lead to 43-32. … Brian Scott, who rushed for 165 yards, opened the scoring for Dana Hills with a 26-yard run. … Capistrano Valley’s Matt Gordon passed for 193 yards and touchdowns of 16 and 20 yards to Cole Muusse. … Adam Gordon scored Capo’s first 10 points, on a 30-yard field goal and a 98-yard kickoff return for a 10-7 lead. … Jordon Bocko scored with no time remaining in the first half to pull Capo Valley to within 23-17. … Dana Hills has a bye next week, but Capo Valley plays host to Laguna Hills (3-4, 1-1). ... In addition to Dana Hills, the only other undefeated team in the Sea View League is San Juan Hills (6-1, 1-0), which had a bye.
