Football: Trabuco Hills 35, Huntington Beach 14

Nathan Perry has a big night as the Mustangs bounce back from last week's one-sided loss to Santa Margarita.

A week after getting rocked by the top-ranked team in the county, Trabuco Hills rolled on Thursday.

Showing that they were a better team for having played Santa Margarita——the Mustangs responded with a 35-14 nonleague victory over visitor Huntington Beach

Quarterback Nathan Perry passed for 193 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 66 and two touchdowns as Trabuco won for the third time in four games.

J.T. Land also scored twice as he had a big night rushing, eight carries for 91 yards.

Chris Reck also rushed for a score.

Perry, who had a touchdown run of 75 yards, had a TD pass to Cole Breeland that covered 62 yards.

It was a terrific performance by Trabuco on the heels of its one-sided loss a week earlier. Even Harry Welch, the coach for Santa Margarita, said that Trabuco was a good team but had the unfortunate luck of catching the Eagles on a night in which they came together.

On Thursday, the Oilers (1-3) were the unlucky team. The second place team from the Sunset League a year ago, Huntington Beach has lost to teams that already have three wins this season, El Toro (3-0), JSerra (3-0) and Trabuco (3-1).

Next week Trabuco plays on Friday at home against another Sunset League school, Fountain Valley (2-1).

Other games involving local teams on Friday, Sept. 14:

  • Carson (0-3) vs. Santa Margarita (3-0) at Saddleback College, 7 p.m.
  • Mission Viejo (3-0) at La Quinta (0-3), 7 p.m.
  • Ontario Colony (0-3) at Tesoro (3-0), 7 p.m.
