Mission High QB to Compete for Top Spot at San Jose

Facing off against a college junior and senior for the starting position at San Jose State doesn't phase senior Ian Fieber of Mission Viejo High. In fact, it's part of the reason he committed to the school this week.

Last year, Fieber threw for 2,875 yard with 25 touchdowns in the Diablos 12-1 season. He told the San Jose Mercury News that he picked San Jose partly for a shot at starting right away.

"It sounds like as soon as I get there in the summer I'm going to be able to compete for the job," he told the newspaper.

He added that the school's offense favors a heavy passing style, which plays on his strengths. Plus coach Ron Caragher and offensive coordinator Jimmie Dougherty were quarterbacks in college, meaning Fieber will have plenty of guidance in his new role.

As a freshman, he will be competing against Blake Jurich, who will be a senior, and Joe Gray, who will be a junior during Fieber's first season.
