Mission Viejo Boy Wows Vegas in Five-State Free-Throw Challenge

Conner Haskell, 11, has hit 95 out of 100 free throws in competition. He will represent the local Elks Club at the national competition.

Conner Haskell has won competition after competition shooting free throws for the Mission Viejo Elks Lodge, and now he'll have a national stage to show his stuff.

The 11-year-old Mission Viejo resident not only won for his age group in Las Vegas Feb. 19 after nailing 23 out of 25 free throws, but he also won a trophy for best free-throw shooter regardless of age in that competition. He beat out competitors from five states.

When you add up all of his free throws in local, district, state and regional competitions, Haskell has hit 95 out of 100 free throws—enough to make a pro basketball star proud.

Elks leader Pat Martino said Haskell “set a new standard for the definition of grace under pressure” at the four-state competition.

“He is a tremendous representative of his family and the Mission Viejo community,” Martino said.
