Swimmer Suffers Heart Attack at Marguerite Aquatics Center, Dies

A 65-year-old died following a heart attack suffered while swimming in a Mission Viejo competition.

A 65-year-old suffered a heart attack while swimming and died after competing Wednesday in Mission Viejo, according to swimswam.com.

Louis Slater of Fresno was pronounced dead at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center, the website said.

Slater had been swimming the 1,500-meter freestyle during the U.S. Masters Swimming Summer Nationals. The competition resumed for nine other heats following the heart attack.

In the same pool in 2010, a 66-year-old woman from Laguna Niguel died from a heart attack suffered during a 1,500-meter race.
