Trabuco Hills High Winter Sports Update

Find out what's kept mustang athletes busy over winter break in basketball and wrestling.

Here's an update on recent sports highlights for Trabuco Hills High School.

  • The varsity girls basketball team beat Segerstrom Friday 54-42. Shelby Julian put in 17 points and five rebounds with one turnover. Kelsey Ramirez added 17 points and eight rebounds to the team's total. Annie Estes led the team in rebounds with 10, in addition to scoring 8 points.
  • With only six players, the JV girls basketball team also beat Segerstrom Friday with a score of 41-31.
  • The wrestling team took first place out of 62 teams at the Asics Southern California Challenge Invitational, which is one of the state's major tournaments. The team had 13 individual medalists. The team also had two individual champions: Chris Hernandez and Chandler Gryske. Gryske was also the upper-weight MVP in the tournament. This is his second MVP award at a major invitational. The team will take on El Toro in the main gym this Thursday at 6 p.m.
  • The freshman-sophomore wrestling team won the Los Alamitos tournament right before winter break.  AJ Knight, Edan Contreras, Parker Irving and Alex Castillo all recorded successive pins on the way to victory. Over the break, the JV wrestling team placed 2nd at the MLK tournament. Brian "happy meal" Hernandez and Michael Sanducci both placed first individually while Nick Jarman, Vance Garness, Jose Hernandez, Colin Parker, Matt "Cheetoh" Goodwin and Luke Murray were all in the top four.
