One of 50 California Artists You Should Know!

Bob Rickerson, Gallery Director of the Saddleback College Art Gallery, is pleased to present 3 Transitions – Work Overtime: Paintings by Don McKinney, in the Saddleback College Art Gallery from August 28th through September 13th. McKinney has been an active artist for over 30 years. He is primarily a painter but has also created works in several diverse media including drawing, printmaking, and sculpture. He was born on the south side of Chicago in 1950 and has resided on the west coast of the United States for most of his adult life. During his long career in the arts, Don has taught and lectured at many universities and colleges throughout the United States. This exhibition will feature his most recent paintings. He is known for large-scale-abstracts with an intense exploration of color, light, movement, and iconographic mythology.

A major feat for Don McKinney is to be listed as number 32 in the California Contemporary Art Journal’s 50 California Artists You Should Know! This prestigious journal features 50 boundary-smashing artists who have made the state of California their own. Art is a timeline of history, and California in the 21st century will be a visual spike to remember. -

Gallery hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from noon-4:00 p.m. and Thursday from noon to 8:00 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. An artists’ reception will be held Friday, August 30th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The gallery will also be open Saturday, September 7th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
