These Campers are All That Jazz!

The Fine Arts Division at Saddleback College is Jumpin’ this summer with the irresistible sounds of jazz coming from the classrooms, the art gallery, the green room and faculty offices! High school and middle school students spent a week with the nationally recognized Saddleback jazz faculty developing improvisation skills and learning specialized techniques. They enjoyed daily jam sessions, faculty concerts, classes in jazz theory, aural skills and private lessons. The week culminated in a free concert for the community and proud parents, grandparents and friends on June 28th. Some of these talented up-and-coming jazz artists have even created original compositions for their Friday performance.

Jazz camper Elijah Meese is thrilled to be back at camp this year. Elijah stated, “I love Jazz Camp! It’s great! You learn a lot, it’s a great experience and you get to work in combos with people you don’t know.” Elijah is going into his freshman year at Laguna Beach High School next year and he plans to continue Jazz Camp each summer throughout his high school years.

According to Director of Jazz Studies, Joey Sellers, “Jazz Camp 2013 looks to be the most talented set of students we’ve had thus far. We are really looking forward to fostering these students’ creativity and sharing our knowledge of this great American music with them this week. “
