Photos: Eagle Project Improves MVHS Bleachers

Mission Viejo High School's bleachers got a fresh coat of paint, thanks to volunteers for 10th-grader Dallas Hartmann's eagle project.

The following is courtesy of Karen Lake, Media Director for the Santa Margarita Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Be sure to check out the photos above for more about the project.

  • WHO: Dallas Hartmann, 15years, 10th grade, plays on the Mission Viejo basketball team and participates in Model United Nations (MUN).  Along with school friends and family, Dallas’ Boy Scout troop 752, sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, came to help him on his project. Volunteers were from Trabuco Canyon, Mission Viejo, Dove Canyon, and Robinson Ranch.
  • WHAT: Dallas Hartmann's Eagle Project: Repainting the stadium seating (bleachers) at Mission Viejo High School Football Stadium  (about 100 hours, 25 volunteers) In MVHS Football Stadium there are 18 rows and 40 seats across the center section.  The home side is painted yellow and each seat is numbered for season seat ticket holders.     First day volunteers scraped off lose paint; painted bleachers red with paint rollers, second day stenciled 720 numbers with yellow spray paint across each row. The MVHS Football Boosters donated all paint and supplies.  Trabuco Canyon Albertsons donated water and a local volunteer family donated donuts.
  • WHEN: August 26 & 27, 2011 (Friday and Saturday morning)
  • WHERE: Mission Viejo High School Football Stadium, Mission Viejo, California
  • WHY: At a home football game, Dallas noticed the stadium seating was chipped and looked shabby.  He saw a need and thought it would improve the looks of the stadium.  A service project to demonstrate his planning and leadership skills required to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints partners with the Boy Scouts of America because of their focus on family values, citizenship and community service.
