Top Five Ways to Keep Our Mission Viejo Community Safe

Top five ways that Mission Viejo continues to be the safest city in California, latest on new after-school programs, Neighborhood Watch & OC Crimestoppers-another helpful program for our city.

Mission Viejo was named the safest city in California once again. Here are five top reasons we continue to achieve this:

  1. School Resource officers – we have 5 dedicated personnel in our city who provide support and protection for over 25, 000 students in our schools in our city
  2. Safety on our Roads – Mission Viejo has 8 motor deputies that patrol our streets – this keeps vehicle speed down, thereby reducing traffic collisions.
  3. Neighborhood Watch – probably one of the best things any neighborhood can do to deter crime and give our city police personal an opportunity to have a relationship with our residents.
  4. Parks and Recreation – our 47 parks and all the activities in our city keep our kids busy and this is something Mission Viejo is very good at doing!
  5. Graffiti Removal – we have a vigorous 24-hour removal program and this deters gang activity from our city.

You can watch a short, city produced video on these five safety points.

As chair of the Mission Viejo Community Services Commission, I am proud to share that we recently added some much needed middle school activities and classes at the , which is within walking distance of two middle schools. These are the things that set our community apart and I’m proud to be part of a city that focuses on activities such as this.

Neighborhood watch is an area that , but as the top 5 list shows, it’s just one of the components that makes our city safe. I do feel it is one of the most cost effective ways.

At one of our recent city council meetings we had a presentation regarding OC Crimestoppers. During the presentation they shared that Crime Stoppers encourages members of the community to assist local law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime by overcoming the two key elements that inhibit community involvement: fear and apathy.

Crime Stoppers provides a telephone number and web tips to encourage citizens in the community to volunteer vital information helpful to law enforcement agencies to fight against crime. Crime Stoppers works in conjunction with law enforcement personnel.
